The 5-day training covers data management fundamentals on Day 4 because they underpin everything else. AI systems require structured, consistent, well-managed data to function. The person who spent 20 years maintaining field data in O&G was doing AI-ready data management before the term existed.
This session brings in a speaker from the energy or resources sector to connect the work most Albertans already know how to do with where the industry is heading.

Blaine Horner is a Calgary-based program and operations professional with over a decade running complex membership programs. He spent eight years at SPE International, a global engineering membership organization, progressing from section coordination to overseeing membership delivery and volunteer operations across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and North America, including two years in London. He later ran operations for a national accelerator placing mid-career energy professionals on teams building new enterprises.
Larisa is Team Lead, Business and Data Analytics at STEP Energy Services, where she leads data strategy and pipeline automation across Databricks, Azure, and the enterprise data lake. Before moving into analytics leadership, she spent over a decade in technical and field roles across the energy sector, including Schlumberger, giving her a firsthand view of both the technical and operational sides of the business. She holds a CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) credential and a Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals certification, and is passionate about building teams that turn data into something people actually use, not just report on.
Nataly Toporkova is a Calgary-based data professional with over 20 years of experience in data governance, integration, and reporting. Currently a Business Data Analyst at S&P Global, she spent 12 years at CNOOC International managing multi-million record databases and building the ETL pipelines and quality processes that keep critical systems reliable. Her technical range spans SQL, Power BI, Collibra, and Pentaho, with deep expertise in oil and gas data environments. Known for bridging the gap between technical systems and real business needs, Nataly brings both the analytical rigour and the people skills to make data work for the organizations that depend on it.
People with industry experience across operations, IT, project management, or administration who want to understand where that experience translates. Anyone who has wondered why organizations keep having the same data problems.
